For decades painting and drawing
defined my passion for art. But in the early 1990's the seduction
of photography diverted my focus and it was my artwork in photography
that first gained recognition for me as an artist. With all the rapid
technological changes that redefined photography by the late '90s,
painting once again became my passion. Over the years the figure
has always been my emphasis in painting, drawing and photography
but the millennium brought a new direction when my fascination for
the surface emerged. My work now incorporates years of experimentation
investigating the narrative capabilities of non representational
surfaces invigorated by raking, rubbing, gouging, and troweling thick
and luscious paint onto the surface. By mixing colors on the canvas
as opposed to the palette each swipe creates a unique combination
of color and texture that never repeats. Color +Texture + Energy
= a plethora of color narratives that have been influenced by current
events, popular culture and abstract expressionism.
